Trump intends to impose a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum.

On February 9, 2025, former President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports into the United States. He stated that "any steel coming into the United States is going to have a 25% tariff."

This move is part of a broader trade policy overhaul and represents a significant escalation in trade measures. The announcement has already prompted reactions from global markets and trading partners.

This is not the first time Trump has implemented such tariffs. In March 2018, during his presidency, he imposed a 25% tariff on steel and a 10% tariff on aluminum imports, citing national security concerns under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.

The current announcement indicates a continuation of Trump's protectionist trade policies, which have historically led to tensions with international allies and trading partners.
