NDLEA Arrests Auto Spare Parts Dealers for Smuggling Cocaine and Heroin in Vehicle Parts

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recently intensified its efforts against drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of several individuals attempting to smuggle illicit substances concealed within auto parts.

In one notable case, an auto spare parts dealer named Ejiofor Chiwuzie was apprehended for trying to export consignments of heroin and 'loud' (a potent strain of cannabis) concealed in LED rechargeable lamps and sofa metal legs through the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The NDLEA operatives discovered 37 parcels of heroin weighing 1.1 kilograms and four blocks of 'loud' totaling 1.2 kilograms hidden within the items. Following the seizure, a swift follow-up operation led to the arrest of two freight agents and subsequently Ejiofor, who had sent the consignment.

In a separate incident, another auto spare parts dealer, Okeke Ebuka Igwe, was arrested on February 24, 2025, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Igwe attempted to export two parcels of cocaine weighing 1.10 kilograms, concealed within vehicle propellers destined for Angola. During interrogation, he claimed to be a businessman selling auto parts at the ASPANDA Trade Fair Complex in the Ojo area of Lagos.

These arrests underscore the NDLEA's commitment to combating drug trafficking through innovative concealment methods and highlight the agency's ongoing efforts to intercept illicit drug shipments across Nigeria.
