Lassa Fever has resulted in 13 deaths in Edo over the past three months.

Recent reports indicate that Lassa fever has significantly impacted Edo State over the past few months. Between December 30, 2024, and January 2025, the state recorded 56 confirmed cases and eight deaths.

Earlier, from December 2023 to March 2024, there were 240 confirmed cases and 21 deaths.

In response to the outbreak, the Edo State government has activated its Public Health Emergencies Response Management Team. This team collaborates with healthcare facilities, community leaders, and stakeholders to implement measures such as enhanced surveillance, expanded treatment centers, infection prevention and control, public awareness campaigns, and partnerships with health organizations.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report symptoms like fever, weakness, headaches, vomiting, or bleeding to the nearest health facility promptly. Early detection and treatment are crucial in managing Lassa fever effectively.
