Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's Move to the UK and Its Impact on Their Real Estate Ventures

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have relocated to the Cotswolds in the UK, reportedly in response to Donald Trump's recent election victory.

This move marks a significant shift from their previous lifestyle in the U.S., where they were renowned for their real estate ventures, often purchasing and quickly selling properties for profit.

In the UK, particularly in the Cotswolds, the real estate market differs notably from that of Southern California. Properties in this region are often historic and come with stringent renovation regulations, making the rapid property turnover that DeGeneres and de Rossi favored more challenging. Harry Gladwin, head of the Cotswolds at the Buying Solution, noted that while some buyers have renovated smaller cottages in desirable villages, the high costs of renovation now make substantial returns less likely.

Additionally, the scarcity of high-value properties in the Cotswolds means that even if a successful flip occurs, finding the next suitable property could be difficult. Sebastian Hipwood, co-founder of Blue Book Agency, mentioned that higher-value houses in the Cotswolds are rare, and tracking one down can be a lengthy process.

Given these factors, it appears that DeGeneres and de Rossi may be moving away from their hobby of flipping houses, at least in the UK context. Their focus now seems to be on settling into their new life in the Cotswolds, embracing the region's unique lifestyle and real estate market.
