ASUU praises lecturer for remaining calm after being assaulted by a female student over a TikTok video?

As of February 15, 2025, there are no official reports indicating that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commented on the incident involving a lecturer and a female student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK). The incident, which occurred on February 11, 2025, involved a physical altercation between Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies. The confrontation reportedly began when Dr. Okoye interrupted the student's recording of a dance video in a faculty corridor, leading to a dispute during which the student allegedly bit the lecturer. The university's management has initiated a full-scale investigation into the matter to ensure appropriate actions are taken based on the findings.

While ASUU has not publicly addressed the incident, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the student's actions, emphasizing the importance of discipline and respect within academic environments. NANS has called for a thorough and unbiased investigation by the university authorities to establish the facts and apply appropriate sanctions if necessary.

Dr. Okoye has recounted his experience, expressing that after he asked the student to excuse him as he passed by, she became confrontational, leading to the physical altercation. He noted that during the incident, the student bit him on both arms and tore his clothes.

The university has urged all parties to remain calm while the investigation is ongoing and has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and decorum within its community.
