Norwich City have dismissed head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup following a disappointing run of form that saw the team win just one of their last ten matches, culminating in a 3-1 defeat to Millwall. This loss left the Canaries 14th in the Championship table, effectively ending their hopes for playoff contention.
In response, former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere has been appointed as interim manager for the final two games of the season. Wilshere, who had been serving as Thorup's assistant since October 2024, will be supported by Tony Roberts and Nick Stanley. This marks Wilshere's first foray into senior management.
Sporting Director Ben Knapper explained that while Thorup's appointment was intended as a long-term strategy, the team's recent performances necessitated a change in leadership.
Looking ahead, Norwich City are considering several candidates for the permanent managerial position. Russell Martin, a former Norwich player with managerial experience at MK Dons, Swansea, and Southampton, is currently the frontrunner. Wilshere is also in contention, with betting odds placing him at 5/1 for the role.
Norwich's remaining fixtures include matches against Middlesbrough and Cardiff City. Notably, the final game will feature a managerial face-off between Wilshere and his former Arsenal teammate Aaron Ramsey, who is serving as Cardiff's caretaker manager.
