The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has intensified its efforts against cybercrime by arresting operators and students of so-called "Yahoo schools" in Benin City, Edo State.
In a significant operation, EFCC operatives apprehended two alleged proprietors of a cybercrime training center, identified as Osagie Ogiemwonyi and Onukwugho Favour, along with seven of their students. The arrests were made following actionable intelligence about the activities of these centers, which are believed to coach individuals in internet fraud techniques.
Items recovered during the operation include a Mercedes Benz GLK, a Lexus 350, several mobile phones, and laptops. These items are suspected to have been used in perpetrating fraudulent activities.
The EFCC has stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. This crackdown is part of the commission's broader initiative to dismantle networks facilitating cybercrime and to deter individuals from engaging in such illicit activities.
